Cabin Fever launched Eli Roth's career with a story about a flesh-eating virus ruining a woodland getaway. The sequels, prequel and remake can be confusing, so here's how they all fit together.

In Cabin Fever, five college friends head to a remote cabin for a vacation, only to be infected one by one by a gruesome flesh-eating disease. The 2002 film mixed body horror with dark comedy and became a cult hit. Ti West directed the sequel Spring Fever, which spreads the virus to a high school prom, while Patient Zero explores the outbreak's origins on a Caribbean island. In 2016, the original was remade using much of Roth's original script.

πŸ• Release Order

Release order covers the original, its sequel, the prequel and finally the remake.

  1. Cabin Fever (2002)
  2. Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009)
  3. Cabin Fever: Patient Zero (2014)
  4. Cabin Fever (2016)

Patient Zero is the key to the timeline, since it shows where the infection began. The 2016 remake, meanwhile, sits outside the original continuity entirely.

πŸ“– Story Chronology

In story order, the prequel comes first, followed by the original film and its direct sequel.

  1. Cabin Fever: Patient Zero (2014) β€” the outbreak's origin
  2. Cabin Fever (2002)
  3. Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009)
  4. Cabin Fever (2016) β€” remake, separate continuity

Which Order Should You Choose?

Start with the 2002 original, which remains the best and most influential entry. Spring Fever follows naturally, and Patient Zero works as an optional backstory. Only watch the remake if you're curious to compare it with Roth's film, since it tells nearly the same story.
