How to watch

The original Charmed, created by Constance M. Burge and produced by Aaron Spelling, premiered on The WB in 1998. It starred Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Alyssa Milano as the Halliwell sisters, with Rose McGowan joining as Paige after Doherty's departure. Running for eight seasons, it became one of the longest-running hour-long series with all-female leads. In 2018, The CW launched a reboot centered on the Vera sisters.

There are two Charmed series released in sequence.

2. Charmed (2018)

The reboot is not a continuation. It reimagines the premise with new characters, Mel, Maggie, and Macy, and its own mythology, so the two shows exist in separate universes.

📖 Story Chronology

Story-wise, the original series runs from the sisters discovering their powers in Season 1 through the series finale in Season 8. The reboot tells its own four-season story.

Which Order Should You Choose?

Start with the original Charmed. It is the defining version, with beloved characters like Leo and Cole and plenty of demon-of-the-week fun mixed with family drama. Watch it in order, as major cast changes and story arcs, including Prue's departure, rely on continuity. The reboot is fully optional and best viewed as a modern spin on the concept. Fans of the original's mix of romance and supernatural action should check out Buffy the Vampire Slayer next, as the two shows were contemporaries.
