Demon Slayer took the anime world by storm with its stunning animation and emotionally gripping story of a young boy fighting to save his demon-transformed sister. With multiple seasons and a theatrical film that broke box office records, this guide covers everything.

Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba became a global phenomenon virtually overnight. The story of Tanjiro Kamado—a kindhearted boy turned demon slayer after his family is slaughtered and his sister Nezuko transformed into a demon—is one of the most visually spectacular and emotionally moving anime in years. With the Mugen Train film bridging Season 1 and Season 2, the watch order does require a little planning.

🕐 Release Order

The release order is fairly simple, but note that the Mugen Train Arc was first released as a feature film and later re-adapted as TV episodes.

  1. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 1 (2019) — 26 episodes
  2. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (2020) — theatrical film
  3. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Entertainment District Arc / Season 2 (2021–2022) — 11 episodes
  4. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Swordsmith Village Arc / Season 3 (2023) — 11 episodes
  5. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Hashira Training Arc / Season 4 (2024) — 8 episodes
  6. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc (2025) — theatrical film series (in progress)

Note: Season 2 of the TV series begins with a 7-episode TV retelling of Mugen Train before moving into the Entertainment District Arc. You can watch either the film or these first 7 episodes—not both.

Which Order Should You Choose?

Watch Season 1, then the Mugen Train film (it's spectacular on a big screen if you can manage it), then continue with Season 2 from the Entertainment District Arc onward. If you can only watch TV episodes, the Mugen Train Arc TV adaptation at the start of Season 2 works perfectly. Do not skip the film or TV arc—it's a crucial bridge between seasons.
