Netflix's Fear Street brought R.L. Stine's teen horror novels to life across three interlinked films set in different decades, followed by a standalone Prom Queen movie. The trilogy deliberately jumps through time, so choosing an order really changes the experience.
The Fear Street films center on the cursed town of Shadyside, where a string of grisly killings seems to trace back to a witch named Sarah Fier. Each film pays tribute to a different slasher era: Part One channels 1990s Scream-style horror, Part Two evokes summer-camp slashers of the late 1970s, and Part Three heads back to colonial 1666. Netflix released the trilogy weekly in July 2021 and returned in 2025 with Prom Queen, set in 1988.
π Release Order
Release order is how Netflix designed the trilogy, unfolding the mystery one decade at a time.
- Fear Street Part One: 1994 (2021)
- Fear Street Part Two: 1978 (2021)
- Fear Street Part Three: 1666 (2021)
- Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025)
Because each film is titled after the year it takes place in, it's tempting to reorder them by date. The catch is that Part Three splits its runtime between 1666 and a climactic return to 1994.
π Story Chronology
In strict chronological order, you'd start in colonial Union, move through the Camp Nightwing massacre and the 1988 prom, then finish in 1994.
- Fear Street Part Three: 1666 (2021) β 1666 segment
- Fear Street Part Two: 1978 (2021)
- Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025) β set in 1988
- Fear Street Part One: 1994 (2021)
- Fear Street Part Three: 1666 (2021) β 1994 finale
Which Order Should You Choose?
Watch in release order. The trilogy is structured as a mystery, and Part One's questions are answered by the later films in a way that loses impact if seen chronologically. Prom Queen is a standalone slasher that can be watched any time after the trilogy.
