Disney's Hercules turned Greek mythology into a gospel-powered animated adventure, followed by a TV series and a direct-to-video film. Here's how to watch Herc's journey from zero to hero.

Disney's 1997 Hercules follows the son of Zeus, stripped of his godhood as a baby by Hades, as he trains with the satyr Philoctetes to become a true hero and win back his place on Mount Olympus. James Woods' fast-talking Hades and the singing Muses made it a fan favorite. Hercules: The Animated Series followed, telling stories of Herc's teenage years at the Prometheus Academy, and episodes were edited together into Hercules: Zero to Hero.

πŸ• Release Order

Release order starts with the 1997 film and follows with the TV series and its compilation movie.

  1. Hercules (1997)
  2. Hercules: The Animated Series (1998–1999)
  3. Hercules: Zero to Hero (1999)

The animated series and Zero to Hero are midquels. They take place during the original film's training montage, when Hercules is a teenager learning to become a hero.

πŸ“– Story Chronology

Chronologically, the series fits within the middle of the movie before Hercules faces his greatest challenges.

  1. Hercules (1997) β€” Hercules' childhood
  2. Hercules: The Animated Series (1998–1999)
  3. Hercules: Zero to Hero (1999)
  4. Hercules (1997) β€” Hercules becomes a hero

Which Order Should You Choose?

Watch the 1997 film first, since the series assumes you know the characters and setting. Then enjoy the animated series as a lighter, episodic expansion. Zero to Hero is mostly reedited series episodes, so you can skip it if you've watched the show.
