The KGF saga turned a Kannada gangster epic into a pan-Indian sensation. Here's how to watch both chapters in order.
KGF chronicles the brutal rise of Rocky, a man who claws his way from poverty to become the ruler of the gold-mining empire of Kolar Gold Fields. Told in two sprawling chapters, the series is known for its stylized action and larger-than-life hero. Powered by Yash's magnetic performance and a thundering score, the saga became one of the biggest Indian releases of its time.
๐ Release Order
Release order is the way to go, as Chapter 2 continues Rocky's story directly from the first film's end.
- KGF: Chapter 1 (2018)
- KGF: Chapter 2 (2022)
Chapter 1 covers Rocky's ascent to power, and Chapter 2 picks up immediately as he defends his empire against new enemies. The framing device of a journalist recounting Rocky's legend ties both chapters together into one sweeping oral history.
๐ Story Chronology
The two chapters form one continuous narrative in release order, framed by a journalist recounting Rocky's legend. The cliffhanger structure means Chapter 1 ends mid-rise, so Chapter 2 is less a sequel than the second half of the same story.
- KGF: Chapter 1 (2018)
- KGF: Chapter 2 (2022)
Which Order Should You Choose?
Watch in release order: Chapter 1 before Chapter 2. The saga is a single story told in two parts, so the sequel assumes you know Rocky's origins and the empire he's built. Starting at the beginning is the only way to go. Treat the two chapters as a single marathon; Chapter 2's explosive climax lands hardest when Chapter 1's buildup is fresh in your mind.
