Luc Besson's assassin thriller Nikita has been remade on three continents and turned into two TV series. Here's how to watch every version in order.
Released in 1990, Luc Besson's Nikita starred Anne Parillaud as a young criminal who is spared execution and secretly trained as a government assassin. Its sleek style made it a global hit and a template for decades of action heroines. Hollywood remade it, Hong Kong reimagined it, and television adapted it twice, giving fans plenty of ways to experience the story.
π Release Order
Here is every major version in the order it was released.
- Nikita (1990)
- Black Cat (1991)
- Black Cat 2 (1992)
- Point of No Return (1993)
- La Femme Nikita (1997β2001)
- Nikita (2010β2013)
Unlike most franchises, Nikita isn't one continuous story. Each adaptation retells the same premise in its own world.
π Story Chronology
Point of No Return, starring Bridget Fonda, is a close American remake of the original film. Black Cat and its sequel are Hong Kong reinterpretations. La Femme Nikita on USA Network expands the story with Peta Wilson as an agent of the shadowy agency Section One, while the CW's Nikita, starring Maggie Q, works as a loose sequel in which a rogue Nikita takes on the organization that trained her.

Which Order Should You Choose?
Start with Besson's 1990 original; it's the definitive version and a short, stylish watch. If you want more, choose between the two TV shows: La Femme Nikita for a moody, morally gray 90s spy drama, or the CW series for faster-paced action and a revenge storyline. Point of No Return is worth seeing only if you prefer an English-language film.
