One Piece is one of the longest-running and most beloved anime series of all time, following Monkey D. Luffy and his crew on a quest to find the ultimate treasure and become King of the Pirates. With over 1000 episodes and multiple films, a proper watch order makes all the difference.
Eiichiro Oda's One Piece began as a manga in 1997 and has grown into a global phenomenon spanning anime, films, video games, and a Netflix live-action adaptation. The journey is long but deeply rewarding β few series can match the emotional highs and world-building of One Piece at its best.
π Release Order
The main anime series should always be your foundation. Most of the films are standalone adventures that can be enjoyed alongside the main series, though a few tie in more closely to canon arcs.

- One Piece Anime β Baroque Works / Alabasta Saga (2001β2002)

- One Piece: Chopper's Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals (2002)

- One Piece Film: Red (2022)
- One Piece β Live Action Series Season 1 (Netflix, 2023)
- One Piece Anime β Egghead Island Arc (2023βpresent)
One Piece has no alternate chronological ordering since it tells its story almost entirely in linear fashion. The story begins with Luffy setting sail and progresses forward with only brief flashbacks that are already placed correctly in the series.
π Story Chronology
One Piece's narrative is linear β the anime follows events in the order they happen in the story world. The films are mostly standalone and can be slotted in alongside the arc that was airing at their release.
- East Blue Saga β Luffy's crew begins to form (1999)
- Alabasta / Baroque Works Saga β The crew's first great battle (2001β2002)
- Skypiea through Long Ring Long Land β New adventures in the sky (2003β2005)
- Water 7 / Enies Lobby β The most beloved arc begins (2005β2007)
- Thriller Bark / Summit War β The story reaches its darkest point (2007β2010)
- Post-Time Skip β Fishman Island through Dressrosa (2011β2016)
- Whole Cake Island / Wano β The New World's greatest battles (2016β2023)
- Egghead Island Arc β The final saga begins (2023βpresent)
Which Order Should You Choose?
Start with the anime from Episode 1 and follow release order. One Piece is a journey, and skipping ahead robs you of the character development and emotional payoff that makes later arcs so powerful. If you want a quicker start, many fans recommend starting with the Arlong Park arc (around Episodes 31β45) to get a taste of the show's dramatic range. The Netflix live-action series is a great companion for newcomers and can be watched independently.
