Jean Dujardin's clueless secret agent Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath is one of the funniest spy parodies ever made. Here's how to watch the OSS 117 comedies in order.
Long before James Bond, French novelist Jean Bruce created agent OSS 117, who starred in a string of serious spy films in the 1950s and 1960s. In 2006, director Michel Hazanavicius and star Jean Dujardin, who later teamed up on The Artist, revived the character as a gloriously arrogant and oblivious parody of old-school espionage movies. The modern trilogy is the version most viewers search for today.
๐ Release Order
The modern comedy trilogy was released over fifteen years.
- OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006)
- OSS 117: Lost in Rio (2009)
- OSS 117: From Africa with Love (2021)
Each film jumps forward in time and cleverly mimics the movie style of its era.
๐ Story Chronology
Cairo, Nest of Spies is set in 1955 and parodies 1950s espionage thrillers. Lost in Rio moves to 1967 with a swinging-sixties look, and From Africa with Love, directed by Nicolas Bedos, lands in 1981 as an ageing Hubert faces a younger rival agent.
- OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006)

- OSS 117: From Africa with Love (2021)
Which Order Should You Choose?
Release order and chronological order are the same, so simply start with Cairo, Nest of Spies. The first two films are widely considered the best, with Dujardin's deadpan delivery and perfectly recreated period visuals. The third is a fun epilogue that pokes fun at Hubert growing old. The vintage OSS 117 films are a separate, serious series and are purely optional.
