Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the Peanuts gang have starred in beloved holiday specials, theatrical films, and modern streaming shows. This guide covers the feature films and the essential specials every fan should know.

Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts comic strip launched in 1950 and became one of the most influential comics of all time. The gang made their animated debut with A Charlie Brown Christmas in 1965, followed by dozens of TV specials and four theatrical films produced with Bill Melendez. Blue Sky Studios brought the characters into CG animation with The Peanuts Movie, and Apple TV+ continues their adventures today.

๐Ÿ• Release Order

Here are the theatrical films alongside the most famous holiday specials and the modern series, in release order.

  1. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
  2. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
  3. A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969)
  4. Snoopy Come Home (1972)
  5. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973)
  6. Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown (1977)
  7. Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don't Come Back!!) (1980)
  8. The Peanuts Movie (2015)
  9. The Snoopy Show (2021)

Peanuts has no strict continuity. Each special and film is a self-contained slice of the gang's life, so the best viewing order is often guided by the calendar.

๐Ÿ“– Story Chronology

For a seasonal chronology, follow the year from autumn through winter, then enjoy the summer-camp and adventure films any time.

  1. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
  2. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973)
  3. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
  4. A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969)
  5. Snoopy Come Home (1972)
  6. Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown (1977)
  7. Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don't Come Back!!) (1980)
  8. The Peanuts Movie (2015)
  9. The Snoopy Show (2021)

Which Order Should You Choose?

Families should make the holiday trilogy a yearly tradition, watching the Great Pumpkin in October, Thanksgiving in November, and Christmas in December. For the films, release order is best: A Boy Named Charlie Brown is a sweet spelling-bee story, Snoopy Come Home is a famous tearjerker, and The Peanuts Movie is a gorgeous love letter to Schulz's art. The Snoopy Show and other Apple TV+ projects are great for younger kids discovering the gang for the first time.
