How to watch the UK and US versions of Shameless in order

Shameless exists in two hit versions, one set in Manchester and one in Chicago, each running for more than a decade. This guide explains how they fit together and where to start.
Paul Abbott's Shameless introduced the chaotic Gallagher family to Channel 4 viewers in 2004. Led by drunken patriarch Frank, the kids scrape by on the Chatsworth Estate through hustles, heartbreak and plenty of dark humor. Its success inspired a Showtime remake starring William H. Macy that became one of American cable's longest-running dramedies.
π Release Order
Here is every season of both shows in the order they premiered.
- Shameless (UK) Series 1 (2004)
- Shameless (UK) Series 2β7 (2005β2010)
- Shameless (US) Season 1 (2011)
- Shameless (UK) Series 8β11 (2011β2013)
- Shameless (US) Seasons 2β11 (2012β2021)
Although the two versions overlapped on air for several years, they never share a storyline, so the chronology is really two separate timelines.
π Story Chronology
The US series closely adapts early UK plots in its first season before taking the Chicago Gallaghers in their own direction. Each show should be watched from start to finish on its own.
- Shameless (UK) Series 1β11 (2004β2013)
- Shameless (US) Seasons 1β11 (2011β2021)
Which Order Should You Choose?
Pick the version that suits your taste. The UK original is grittier, rowdier and evolves into an ensemble piece as the cast changes, while the US version keeps Frank, Fiona and Lip at its heart for longer and is easier to stream in most regions. Watching the UK series first lets you appreciate how faithfully the remake adapts its early episodes, but there is no wrong choice, since neither show requires the other.
