How to watch

Based on Charles Addams' macabre cartoons, The Addams Family films celebrate a ghoulish clan that finds delight in the morbid. The 1990s live-action pair became instant classics, while a 2019 animated reboot and its sequel introduced the kooky household to a new generation. From Gomez and Morticia's passionate romance to Wednesday's deadpan menace, the family's gleeful embrace of the dark has charmed audiences for decades.

🕐 Release Order

Release order keeps the two eras clear, since the live-action and animated films exist in separate continuities.

1. The Addams Family (1991)
2. Addams Family Values (1993)
3. The Addams Family (2019)
4. The Addams Family 2 (2021)

The 1991 and 1993 films form the live-action duo starring Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia, while the 2019 and 2021 films are a separate computer-animated series. Keeping the two eras separate helps, since the animated films reimagine the characters from the ground up rather than continuing the live-action story.

📖 Story Chronology

Each pair tells its own continuous story in release order; the animated films are a reboot rather than a continuation of the live-action movies. That clean split means you can enjoy either series first without spoiling or confusing the other.

1. The Addams Family (1991)
2. Addams Family Values (1993)
3. The Addams Family (2019)
4. The Addams Family 2 (2021)

Which Order Should You Choose?

Watch in release order. If you want the definitive experience, the two live-action films, especially Addams Family Values, are the gold standard. The animated reboot and its sequel are lighter, family-friendly fare that work well for younger viewers. Whichever era you choose, the Addams clan's motto rings true: they're creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky, and endlessly entertaining.
