The Eminence in Shadow is a hilarious isekai about a boy obsessed with being the mastermind lurking in the shadows β who accidentally becomes exactly that. With two seasons, here's the watch order.
Cid Kageno dreams of being the hidden power behind the scenes, so after being reincarnated into a fantasy world he invents a fake secret organization β only for it to turn out the enemies he made up are frighteningly real. Blending chuunibyou comedy with legitimately epic action, The Eminence in Shadow became a breakout hit across two seasons.
π Release Order
The two seasons aired a year apart and continue one ongoing story, so release order is the way to watch.
- The Eminence in Shadow (2022)
- The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 (2023)
There are no prequels to juggle, so the chronology matches the release order exactly.
π Story Chronology
Cid's scheme escalates in a straight line as the Shadow Garden organization grows across both seasons.
- Season 1 (2022) β building Shadow Garden
- Season 2 (2023) β the conflict expands
Which Order Should You Choose?
Simply watch season one followed by season two. The comedy relies on the gap between Cid's delusions and the real stakes around him, a joke that only grows funnier as the story builds β so starting from the beginning is essential. There are no spin-offs to complicate the picture, making this one of the easiest isekai franchises to follow.
