Tim Allen's Scott Calvin starts the franchise as an ordinary divorced father who accidentally inherits the red suit, the reindeer, and the impossible responsibility of becoming Santa Claus. What makes this series work is that it treats the ridiculous premise with just enough sincerity to become genuinely cozy. Across the movies and the later streaming series, the franchise keeps returning to family, legacy, and the idea that Scott has to keep earning the role rather than simply wearing the costume. That long arc makes order matter more than you might expect from a holiday comedy.

Watch The Santa Clause in release order from start to finish. The 1994 original remains by far the essential entry, and the sequels make the most sense if you already understand how Scott became Santa in the first place. The later Disney+ series is not required viewing if you only want the nostalgic holiday movies, but it does extend Scott's story in a way longtime fans may appreciate. If you are watching with children, the trilogy alone makes an easy seasonal marathon; if you are a completist, add both seasons of The Santa Clauses afterward.
