Frosty the Snowman has been a holiday TV favorite since 1969. With sequels, crossovers and a later reboot, here's how to watch every Frosty special in order.
Thumpety thump thump, look at Frosty go! The 1969 Rankin/Bass special, narrated by Jimmy Durante, follows a magical snowman brought to life by a silk hat and his race to the North Pole before he melts. Its success led to a sequel, a crossover with Rudolph and two later specials from different studios, giving Frosty a surprisingly long-running franchise.
π Release Order
Release order runs through the Rankin/Bass era before the 1990s and 2000s follow-ups.
- Frosty the Snowman (1969)
- Frosty's Winter Wonderland (1976)
- Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July (1979)
- Frosty Returns (1992)
- The Legend of Frosty the Snowman (2005)
The first three specials share the Rankin/Bass universe, with Frosty finding a wife in Winter Wonderland and teaming up with Rudolph in Christmas in July. Frosty Returns and The Legend of Frosty the Snowman are standalone continuations from other studios.
π Story Chronology
Story order matches release order, so there's nothing to rearrange β just enjoy the snowman's adventures as they arrive.
- Frosty the Snowman (1969)
- Frosty's Winter Wonderland (1976)
- Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July (1979)
- Frosty Returns (1992)
- The Legend of Frosty the Snowman (2005)
Which Order Should You Choose?
Watch in release order. The 1969 original is the must-see and pairs perfectly with Rudolph's 1964 special. Frosty's Winter Wonderland is a sweet follow-up, while Frosty Returns, with John Goodman voicing Frosty, has a fun environmental twist for kids. Most entries are under an hour long, so the whole collection fits into a single cozy afternoon.
